Digital Photo Relics
What's the oldest digital camera photo you have on your computer? When is it from? Let's see it!
Well, all right then!
This is a photo of Maha Computers, taken in December, 1996. I took it a few hours before work using a Casio QV-10 (if memory serves...) that I had for a short while. Boy, digital cameras sucked ten years ago.
Anyway, Maha was where I had my first job. I worked there during high school and college, and working in a computer store was a total dream for me. I started out repairing systems, then worked with customers, and eventually became the store manager. We did our best to compete with Best Buy just up the street (look! 8MB of RAM for $69!)
It was really sad to me when Maha - later The Byte Shop - closed. Not just because I was out of a job, but because of the memories. My first boss there introduced me to falafel. I bought tons of computer stuff there. I hated that job, I loved that job. I loved going to Danny's next door for some good gyros. I loved making signs and banners, and updating the weekly price list.
Today, this building is gone. It was demolished years ago as part of a planned "Superblock" in Berwyn. That still hasn't been built, though, which means it's just an empty lot. Lots of memories, gone.
